The World Missions Summit — Challenging Young Adults
Few generations in history have been as nurtured as this present generation of collegians. They are more cautious than ever before. They have been raised under the mantra of tolerance. They have been victimized by terrorism and the global responses they have observed have framed their world view. Family approval is of utmost importance. They play it safe and want to feel good about what they do. But, if properly challenged, they will rise to a new call.
This is the future generation of our Church; its leaders, its pastors, and its missionaries. Due to all these factors, their world view and attitudes about self and sacrifice are different than their preceding generations.
If we are serious about reaching this world where estimates are as high as 28% of the worlds population have never been given an adequate presentation of the gospel and where some nations today, if Jesus came, would occupy hell virtually in total, we must take some radical and bold steps of advancement.
Chi Alpha under the covering of Assemblies of God World Missions is making a radical challenge to our 15,000 students involved in our ministries stateside. Every student goes, every student gives, every student prays. We are asking every student to go on a cross cultural mission at least once during their collegiate career. The Mormons have been giving 2 years. We have been giving excuses.
According to recent Peace Corps statistics, volunteerism is at an all time high. All of our students are capable of devoting time in service for the Church. Evangelism and service is something the entire church is called to. David Grant, long-term Assemblies of God World Missionary states, “I don’t know if I was ever called to missions, I just volunteered.” Assemblies of God missions is going to see a new student volunteer missions movement.
From December 30, 2005 through January 1, 2006, Assemblies of God World Missions with Chi Alpha will be hosting The World Missions Summit. This will be a conference like none other the Assemblies of God has hosted. 4000 college students and young adults will be invited to this strategic venue where they will here real reports of what is happening around the world and real needs related to those reports that they can fill. They will hear excellent teaching relating to missions, building a biblical and solid missiological base that will stand a life time. They will have meals with missionaries where they will be challenged and hear relevant missions stories. They will be involved in educational breakouts relating from ministry to Muslims to media ministry. They will be exposed to the multiple facets of Assemblies of God mission works around the globe. And at the conclusion of the
conference, every student present will be challenged to do their part in God’s great commission to all of us. Well thought out, solid tangible opportunities for service will be presented.
